BMW South Africa adopted research from Cologne, Germany that showed using debt counsellors reduced debt among employees by 15% and the number of creditors declined by 21%. They implemented it using social workers trained in psychology and debt counselling and in two years from 2006 to 2008 have seen a 53% reduction in debt among participating workers and a 34% decrease in absenteeism.
